Le Clos du Gusquel is a veritable rural idyll, an immaculately designed B&B where birds sing, hens potter, and the treats include a sauna, a pool and a wonderful organic breakfast. Watch the sheep graze as you bask by the pool or stroll down the slope to settle under the trees. The setting is green and serene, and all you hear are the birds. It’s a short drive to the bars, boutiques and markets of beautiful old Vannes or the Gulf of Morbihan.

For owner Christelle, this is both her family home and her passion. The old farm has been renovated in a style of quiet contemporary luxury with solid wood, polished concrete, a sauna on the landing, a mini cinema below. The front door faces a large open-plan living and dining area, yours to share, with a wood-burner for winter and a wall of glass for the view.

In summer the geothermally-heated pool is a place of fun and relaxation, surrounded by generous wooden decking with sunbeds and parasols. In winter it remains ornamental, reflecting the trees and the sky in its dark water.

Breakfast, served out on the deck in summer, is worth getting up for – croissants, crepes, eggs from the hens and homemade jams. Everything is homemade or comes from the nearest selected producers, organic whenever possible.

The three bedrooms of Le Clos du Gusquel have featured in many French design magazines, as well as television and guide books. Each of them is spacious and full of light. Grey, green or plum on the walls with a darker feature wall to evoke the night. All rooms are equipped with large and comfortable beds and have a private bathroom. They have eco-friendly underfloor heating, big beds, television, tea and coffee-making facilities, and more.

The Gulf of Morbihan is a shallow, almost land-locked bay that is perfect for swimming, sailing, sun-bathing, boating or simply enjoying the scenery. Vannes is a medieval city of great interest and the history at Carnac goes back much further than that. Really, this corner of Brittany needs little explanation: it's just wonderful!
