The Whitehouse is a a family-run, luxurious boutique bed and breakfast hotel set in a lushly-planted garden in the south Devon village of Chillington. It has been given a stylish and uplifting mid-century-style makeover by its new owners to create a truly welcoming South Devon retreat.

The sheltered garden will catch the sun at any time of day and has many quiet corners to read or laze about. Watch the buzzards soar overhead and listen to the seagulls. If the weather closes in, the lounge is the perfect bolt-hole at any time of the day. Sink into one of the comfy sofas or chairs and plan your next adventure with one of the many guidebooks on-hand.

The bar is well stocked with local ales and spirits as well as more general favourites. The Mona Lisa on the back wall tells you that life is not to be taken too seriously. The dining room has a beautiful view of the terrace and gardens and on a warm day the big double doors will be thrown open. Breakfast features cereals, fruit, yoghurt, juices and delicious cooked options including local produce. For other meals there are some fabulous places to eat and drink within a ten minute walk of the hotel, and many others just a short drive away.

Each of the boutique bedrooms is slightly different, relaxed and designed for luxury and comfort. They are all spacious, well equipped and include wall-mounted smart TVs, DVD player, good free wifi and a minibar for alcoholic and soft drinks, complimentary coffee, teas, water and organic milk. The showers are a delicious deluge and the baths are big enough for two. Rooms 1 and 2 can interconnect, ideal for families. All rooms can comfortably accommodate a cot. Rooms 5 and 6 will easily host one or two children in camp beds and baby monitors work throughout the house.

This part of South Devon is ideally placed close to the wonderful Devonshire coast and with the delights of Dartmoor just a short drive inland. Slapton Sands, Salcombe, Hope Cove, Burgh Island and Dartmouth are all close at hand. You can take a number of different boat trips from Dartmouth and there is some out-of-this-world walking to be done. Don't miss the Start Point Circular, via remote but stunning Mattiscombe Sands.
