The Hotel du Vin Edinburgh sits just off the Royal Mile in the Old Town, between Edinburgh’s iconic castle and Holyrood Palace. It places you right on the doorstep of fabulous shopping, impressive museums and galleries, striking Georgian and Victorian architecture and during August, the world's biggest arts festival – complete with the festival itself, the military tattoo, the book festival and the even more famous Edinburgh Fringe.

The building has taken many guises since it was built in 1743 but it is now a great luxury hotel. Filled with the character of the city, the hotel features 47 distinctive rooms and suites. They’ve all been designed with the kind of luxury you’d expect from a luxury hotel in a capital city, with custom made sleigh beds, hand-sprung mattresses, soft Egyptian cotton bed linen, fluffy towels, robes, and a monsoon shower or in-room roll top bath. In the summer months, the central courtyard transforms into an al fresco dining area, but if the weather’s not on your side the Bistro du Vin kitchen is the place to be. Enjoy afternoon tea, a catch-up in the bar with a cocktail, a cosy nightcap in the Whisky Snug, or a cigar and tipple in the heated Cigar Bothy.

The bistro restaurant focuses on fresh, tasty, well-made dishes to offer an intriguing menu at a reasonable price. The waiting staff are attentive and knowledgeable, happy to advise on the menu and the extensive wine list. The bistro is open all day from an early morning breakfast, relaxing lunches, to dinner.

The bar offers a wealth of beverages. The name tells you it will be strong on wines, with a proper French influence, and the location ensures that whiskies will be fully represented too. As well as drinks there is a great choice of bar food throughout the day from the Bistro kitchen. Perhaps a morning coffee and warm croissant while you catch up on your emails? A lunch with friends ranging from colourful salads to a the special house burger? Maybe a club sandwich with a light and fruity glass of white.

The guest rooms have been sensitively converted to retain the unique features of the historic buildings that make up the hotel. A plasma-screen TV, DVD player, Egyptian linen and luxury private bathroom are all featured in each elegant room.

The location of the hotel is second-to-none in Edinburgh, placed mid-way between Edinburgh Castle and the university. The Scottish National Gallery, the Scottish Portrait Gallery, the National Museum of Scotland, the Royal Mile and the Scott Monument are all within walking distance. Holyrood House, Holyrood Park and the Royal Yacht Britannia are just a short bus-ride or drive away.
