The Bath Arms Hotel is a pub, restaurant and hotel all rolled into one, situated in the centre of Cheddar within easy walking distance of the famous Cheddar Gorge and Caves. It’s also ideally located for visiting Wells, Glastonbury and the Mendip Hills.

Sean and Jacqui reopened the Bath Arms in July 2014 following a complete refurbishment with the goal of bringing to Cheddar delicious and innovative food complemented by the highest standards of service and care. The pub restaurant is open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Naturally there’s a proper full English breakfast at the head of the breakfast menu, but if you come over all continental there are croissants too, as well as pancakes with fresh berries and numerous other variations on a hot breakfast. There’s a really impressive selection at lunchtime with all the pub lunch favourites and more. Never forgetting the Cheddar heritage, there’s real Cheddar cheese cave-aged in the gorge, the fish and chips is fried in cider batter and even the brie comes from Somerset. In the evening there’s more of the same, plus some mouth-watering specials. The restaurant was awarded two AA rosettes in 2019.

There’s a fine selection of beers and ciders at the bar, plus a wine list that includes Aldwick Rosé from just the other side of the Mendips. Gin lovers are especially well catered-for too.

The bedrooms are tastefully decorated in soft pastel shades and include an en-suite bathroom with a vintage-style shower over a large deep bath, hairdryer, television, wi-fi and a tea and coffee tray. There is a choice of single, double or twin beds.

Cheddar Gorge and Cheddar Caves are famous the world over, and they are just a 10 minute walk away. There are more caves at Wookey Hole and a short drive along the foot of the Mendips leads to the smallest city in England, Wells, with its impressive cathedral and bishop’s palace. It’s only 14 miles to Glastonbury Tor, sitting alongside the spiritual, new-age town of Glastonbury. And I haven’t even mentioned Weston-Super-Mare, Brean Down or Burrington Combe.
